School summary

Tracing its history back to 1796, Heath Mount is a co-educational prep school in Hertford catering for children from the ages of 3 to 13, with both day and boarding places available. The school's most recent ISI inspection awarded the top rating of "excellent", a judgement echoed in its assessment of pupils' personal development, and compliance standards were met. With 507 pupils and a notably generous pupil-to-teacher ratio of around 7 to 1, classes are kept small and individual attention is built into the school day. It is a medium-sized school where families seeking close pastoral care alongside academic ambition are likely to feel at home.

Teaching & academics

The ISI's "excellent" rating points to consistently high standards across the curriculum, supported by a staffing level that allows teachers to know each child well. Roughly 14 per cent of pupils receive some form of SEN support, suggesting the school is equipped to help those who learn differently. Academic scholarships are among the awards on offer, recognising and rewarding strong performers.

Watch Passmate decide how to teach.

Answer as a child would. Left: what they see. Right: what it learns about them.

A long-established prep school where small classes and an "excellent" ISI verdict go hand in hand. Day fees run from around £21,400 to £28,200 a year, with bursaries and scholarships helping to widen access.

That’s where Passmate comes in. Tutoring is the most effective thing in a child’s preparation - a well-tutored child can outperform the vast majority of their peers. Passmate works alongside your tutor, not instead of them: it learns how your child thinks, finds the gaps, and shows the tutor exactly where to spend each session - so the limited time you have lands on what actually decides a place.
